Judge – Mrs Pam Blay
The Clumber Spaniel Club held an open show at Overseal Village Hall & with the excellent weather, judging was able to take place outside giving a lovely garden party atmosphere. The show was held in the morning with the Club’s AGM in the afternoon. I am very grateful to the hard working committee & steward for making me so welcome & for looking after me so well. I was very pleased with my entry & with only a couple of absentees, I was spoilt for choice in most classes & I really appreciated the opportunity to go over so many good Clumbers.

Nice type of dog but the first show on grass took its toll on his movement, he had great problem settling on the move & gave his owner a hard time. Lovely clean eye in a head which obviously still needs to mature & finish but he is not yet a year old & needs the time, in good coat & condition, lovely bone & feet, good mouth & well set ears, nice shoulder placement. Just needs to body up & mature to complete the picture

Only a puppy but very clean in outline, he has a lovely balanced head & body, well shaped eye with a good width across his skull, well set ears, moved well on well boned legs & feet, excellent neck & shoulders, liked his type & balance, he is quality & showed & moved well using his strong, well muscled hindquarters & strong hocks to cover the ground with a typical roll yet with ease.
2nd | Anbrook Burma Star at Brazenhill - Newsham |
Heavier more workmanlike type who is at the inbetween stage at present, lovely bone & feet, good hindquarters, he is well bodied with a good depth & width of rib & a strong loin, nice shoulder placement, put down in lovely coat & condition

Good outline on this boy who at present is a bit loose behind both set up & moving away, looked fine moving in profile covering plenty of ground with the correct pace but set up kept losing his topline set up, strong masculine head & expression, no mistaking his sex, good neck & shoulders, heavy bone & good feet.
2nd | Micklemess Making Music at Clumadane - Rudbach |
On the day I just preferred the balance of 1’s head but 2 has lots going for him, good neck & shoulders, excellent hindquarters, well boned legs & feet, in lovely coat & condition, when he settled he moved well, good ribcage & strong loin, bet these 2 change places regularly

An old fashioned type but oh so true both set up & moving, he is balanced, not overlarge but well proportioned, not over exaggerated in any way & put down in lovely coat & condition, he is well muscled with a balanced head with a lovely expression & a clean eye, although alone, I am sure he could win well

Clean cut dog in lovely coat & condition, strong head with a clean eye & enough muzzle to balance, correct neck & shoulders, lovely ribcage & loin, held a good topline leading to a well set & carried tail, strong well muscled hindquarters, lovely bone & feet, moved well covering the ground with a lovely roll, won a lovely class
2nd | Whissgig L’il Abner - Sheppard |
Older brother to Bristolian & litter brother to 3 here too, he is a nice size & balance, just a bit shallow through the middle at present but still has time to finish maturing, enough neck & shoulder, good bone & feet, well balanced head with a masculine expression, good profile movement highlighting his strong hindquarters & strong hocks, in excellent coat & condition, showed well to beat his brother

This quality dog I saw as a very young puppy & thought then he has such promise & I am pleased to see that he has fulfilled that early promise. He is very balanced with such a masculine head & expression, strong neck & correct shoulders, strong topline held both set up & moving, good depth & width of rib with a strong loin, well muscled hindquarters & a strong hock, he is a picture of strength yet I could see him doing a day’s work, in excellent coat & condition, lovely bone & feet.
2nd | Tweedsmuir Blaze of Glory JW - Monaghan |
Fought hard to win his place which he did on balance & his well proportioned body, strong head with a good eye, excellent neck & shoulders, good depth & width of body leading to a well muscled hindquarters which were slightly weaker than 1 on the day, moved well in profile keeping a good head carriage covering the ground well on well boned legs & feet & keeping a strong level topline both set up & moving, put down in excellent coat & condition. This quality dog took RBIS on his type & showmanship.

Absolute baby with lots of potential, she is balanced & moved & showed so well, she was very sound on the move using her well made front construction & strong hindquarters to covering the ground with a good roll & lots of panache when she settled! You have to excuse babies for their first time on grass in a new year. Lovely head & expression leading to a good neck & shoulders, lovely bone & feet, good topline & nice hindquarters, she is a good size for age & I hope she fulfils her early promise
2nd | Tweedsmuir Calfuray - Monaghan |
Again a lovely type with excellent bone & feet, lovely feminine head & expression with a good eye of a nice shape, good body proportions, another who moved OK when she settled but I understand this was her first show & I think she equitted herself well, lovely clear coat, well presented, beat her littler sister

Well made & well grown young lady who is just out of puppy, in excellent coat & condition, she is balanced with a beautiful head & expression, good depth of muzzle & a clean eye & well set ears, good neck & shoulders, strong topline held both set up & moving, moved well on well boned legs & feet, showed well to win her place
2nd | Micklemess Magic Flute - Walton |
Shorter coupled girl of 17 months, preferred the width & depth of 1’s head but her head is in proportion to her body, well boned legs & feet, she is well muscled & put down in excellent coat & condition, moved OK when she settled, but not covering quite the ground as 1 with less purpose, not the bend of stifle I was looking for

Lacks maturity & finish, she still needs time, still not 2 & it shows, good neck & shoulders, nice topline & balance, in good coat & condition, preferred 1’s head & expression & today she was not moving true behind, hence paid the price. She is a nice type & would be interesting to see how she finishes.

Well balanced, quality bitch of a lovely type, not moving so well today as her construction says she should for she has a lovely neck, shoulders & front construction, strong, well muscled hindquarters with a good sound hock, strong topline & loin & a good depth & width of rib, pretty head & expression, with a clean eye, in excellent coat & condition, lovely head carriage in profile movement with a well set & carried tail;
2nd | Marshalver Miss Attitude - Boden & Monaghan |
Lighter type of bitch who moved so well, not the strength in head of 1 but still very feminine, good coat put down in excellent condition, showed & moved well, good neck & shoulders, well ribbed back to a strong loin, good hindquarters & well set tail.

Loved this girl’s outline not quite so finished in outline, such a good mover on well boned legs & feet, lovely type who appealed for she is in lovely coat & condition, so very feminine, she is a lovely type & quality all through, close up to 1, just preferred 1’s head balance on the day

Has so much to like about this quality bitch, she is a lovely type & so sound on the move, feminine bitch in good coat & condition, strong hindquarters & a strong hock, keeping a strong topline both set up & moving, feminine head & expression, good neck & shoulders, well boned legs & feet, won the class but in the challenge she was just dropping on her left shoulder, but still worthy of RBB
2nd | Suelynda Chantilly - Boden |
Another in excellent coat & condition, moved a dream really covering the ground with purpose & typical for the breed, strong neck & shoulders, clean eye with a feminine head & well set ears, well boned legs & feet, she is balanced & a nice type who showed well

What can I say? Although she is over 10 years old I think she just screams Clumber to me, she is balanced & moved so well for her age, she is in excellent coat & condition, such a feminine head with a lovely eye of a good shape giving an excellent expression, good depth of muzzle & well set & carried ears, good neck & shoulders, kept a strong topline both set up & moving, good ribcage well back to a good loin & strong hindquarters, well boned legs & feet, she just stole my heart & couldn’t resist her for BB & BOS, surprised to see she wasn’t a champion, thank you for bringing her, she was still showing at the end of the show
2nd | Dockwray Serenity of Harrifield - Thorogood |
Another lovely old girl who I remember as a youngster, time has been kind to her but today she decided it was too hot & she wasn’t going to show off her best bits! She is a lovely type who is very feminine with just enough bone for type, pretty head & she was glad to finish her ‘bit’ & get back to relaxing!
